​My husband, Dale, and I are ordinary people.  I have worked in biological labs and in real estate.  Dale has been an Air Force fighter pilot and owned a computer training company.  My college degree is in biology.   I had a dynamite junior high art teacher, Opal Berry, in Salem, Oregon.  Because of Mrs. Berry, when the possibility occurred, I studied under four watercolor masters, learning that being perfect did not equate to a living wage.  So I took four years of marketing classes.

Discovering Pocket Sketching® was an accident on an oil painting trip.  By pure luck I had the right pen, paper that let it run, and a water-loaded brush because I had been doing ‘wash drawing’ with India ink.  I had planned to ‘never teach,' but after three days of experimenting with the Pilot pen, I knew I would have to teach this technique because it is the perfect bridge into watercolor.  It is painless, simple, has no rules.  You get excellent results with the first exercise:  an ‘Ah ha’ moment for everyone!
