Plan a Sketch Trip With Friends

Four of us (sketchers) went to Victoria for 3 days of sketching: Joy Thompson, Julie Wilson, Eva Martony and me. Joy lives in Coupeville, Washington where I did a lecture and one-day workshop. Dale visited his brother in Federal Way, Washington so there was time for a sketching trip with just 'us sketchers.'  Joy put it together. Three days were stuffed with things to sketch and laughter. If you have a friend who is also sketching (doesn't matter how well), GO DO IT!  So much more fun than just traveling!!!

Eva caught the moving sea plane, Joy got the horse from an overhead light fixture and Julie did the tea set.

Here's a big note:  If you get a really great sketch, don't give it away until you have scanned it into your computer or taken a really good photograph!

Bev Doolittle's entire career was started with the one watercolor of the Indians, the eagle and the reflection. If she had given it away, the world wouldn't have had that image to enjoy (and neither would she!)  Julie gave the tea set sketch to a friend:  no copy!

But There Was More

While we were sketching at the Empress Hotel Bar, a family was sitting next to us. They were celebrating their twelve-year-old daughter's birthday (she picked the venue). Julie began sketching the girl. The family started asking questions. Julie did a great sketch, which she gave to them. They were delighted! Then Julie, Eva and Joy did a marvelous sales pitch for Pocket Sketching.®  I was the 'elder-sketcher-sitting-at-the-side-saying-nothing.'

Totally amazing!!!!  I couldn't have pitched Pocket Sketching batter!!! It felt strange...like it's time to bow out and find a new, younger person to take over Pocket Sketching.
